Thai champ Srisaket Sor Rungvisai eyes Ancajas ahead of title defense

BANGKOK — WBC and RING world super flyweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai is eyeing a unification showdown against IBF world title holder Jerwin Ancajas ahead of his title defense against Iran Diaz in the main event of ONE: Kingdom of Heroes on October 6 at Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.

Rungvisai, who holds a record of 46-4-1 with 41 knockouts, is the undisputed lineal champion in the super flyweight division after he toppled the then pound-for-pound no.1 Roman Gonzalez in 2017. Eager to make his mark in boxing history, the Thai champion is hoping to land a unification fight with Ancajas to boost his resume.

"I think it would be great to get the opportunity to unify the world titles with Jerwin Ancajas. I've been watching him fight, I think he's a great boxer and I've been following him as well and I am very impressed. I think it will be a great fight. He's a great boxer with a good boxing style when it comes to fighting backwards," said Rungvisai.

"If I get to fight him, I will definitely move forward and try to knock him out. I will not take him lightly for sure because he is a great fighter but my aim will be to go for a knockout. It will be a very interesting fight specially that we are both southpaws. It will be an interesting matchup of styles."

Rungvisai's upcoming bout is regarded by many fans and scribes as a tune-up fight, and despite looking forward to fighting the other champions in his division, the Thai champ clarified that he is not looking past Diaz (14-2-3, 6 KOs), who he also described as a good fighter.

"I think Iran Diaz is a great fighter, I don't think it will be an easy fight at all. I have been seeing him fight, he has a difficult style to fight with so I am not taking him lightly," told Rungvisai.

"I'll give it all in the gym and that should take care of it. There's no way that I will let my belt go outside of Thailand. I'm coming in at a hundred percent and I'm confident of getting the win." — BM, GMA News
