V-League: Tigresses wipe out Lady Stags in straight sets

Banking on its fluid offense and tight defense inside the court, the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Tigresses drew first blood of the 4th Shakey’s V- League best-of-three finals series, wiping out the San Sebastian College (SSC) Lady Stags in three-straight setters, 25-17, 25-12, 25-17, Sunday at The Arena in San Juan. Veteran Venus Bernal carried the load for the Tigresses, scoring 19 points including 16 attacks, two blocks and one service ace, while Mary Jean Balse added 12 points. Rysabelle Devanadera topscored for SSC with nine points while guest player Jaroensri Bualee added eight. Earlier, outstanding conference players were given awards with Bualee as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and Best Scorer, Michelle Labhorte (Ateneo) as Best Blocker, Balse as Best Spiker, Karla Bello (Ateneo) as Best Server, Mary Jane Pepito (SSC) as Best Digger, and Ma.
