A 10-year-old Fil-Am beat a Michael Phelps record

Making the social media rounds on Wednesday is the story about a 10-year-old boy with a superhero name to boot, who beat Michael Phelps out of his one record.

Over the weekend, 10-year-old FIl-Am Clark Kent Apuada competed in the boys 10 and under, 100-meter butterfly of the Far Western Swimming Championship and won with a time of 1:09:38.

In 1995, Phelps set the record in the same category, in the same category in the same swim meet with a time of 1:10:48.

That’s only a few seconds difference, but what a difference those seconds made.

According to Huffington Post, Clark is a Filipino-American fifth-grader whose friends call him…Superman. It fits, especially when he’s in water.

Swimming, according to  CNN is just one of the many things Clark does. According to his father Chris, Clark does piano, martial arts, “amd at school if there’s acomputer class, coding, or STEM programs he’s always joining.”

But swimming, Clark says, is what he really loves. “I love swimming because I have a lot of people supporting me and my  coaches are always there for me and my parents are always there.”

Since swimming competitively three years ago, at age of 7, Clark’s dream was to break a Phelps’ record.

“I was so happy and relieved that I was able to beat that record,” Clark tells HuffPo, adding it is his dream to compete in the Olympics – either Paris 2024 or Los Angeles 2028.

It's a long shot, but Clark already has a reminder to all, including himself: “Always have fun and never give up on your dreams, no matter what anybody says.” — LA, GMA News
