AFP salutes Airwoman Hidilyn Diaz for Asian Games gold medal

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has lauded the victory of weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.

"Airwoman First Class Diaz epitomizes the diligence, perseverance, hard work, and dedication not only of every airman, soldier, sailor, and marine, but of every Filipino who triumphs over all adversities and challenges," AFP spokesperson Edgard Arevalo said in a statement.

Diaz bagged the gold medal after dominating the women's 53-kilogram division, lifting 92 kilos in the snatch and 115 kilos in the clean and jerk, totaling 207 kilos.

With Diaz's triumph, the Philippines improved its tally to a gold and four bronze medals.

Arevalo said the entire military "renders salute" to the Zamboanga City native for "another success in her career where she rose from humble beginnings to one of international prominence."

Diaz won the silver medal during the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. —NB, GMA News
