Many Filipinos woke up early Monday to keep tabs on a ring-shaped solar eclipse where the moon partially blocked the sun.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the eclipse started at 4:59 a.m. in Manila, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported.
PAGASA astronomers used filters to view and document the eclipse, which started to "peak" at 5:58 a.m. until past 7 a.m.
Parts of Metro Manila were relatively darker as of 6 a.m. Monday.
The dzBB report said the eclipse looked like the sun was being eaten by the moon.
Meanwhile, PAGASA directed early stargazers who could not watch the eclipse to a link providing additional information about the annular eclipse.
A post on PAGASA's Twitter account led to an animation on TimeandDate.com.
"The annular phase of this solar eclipse is not visible in Manila, but it can be observed there as a partial solar eclipse," TimeandDate.com said. –KG, GMA News
