DOJ traces hackers defacing govt websites
Hackers beware.
The Justice Department of Justice announced on Monday that they have traced hackers reponsible for defacing government websites.
In a chance interview with reporters, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said: “As of last week, [ang National Bureau of Investigation ay] may mga natutukoy na silang personalidad. Tinitignan nila ngayon kung anu ba ‘yun, if was it is just for fun o totohanan na willingly and deliberately violating the law.”
The NBI has an Anti-fraud and Computer Crimes unit, which investigates cybercrimes. The BI is under the supervisoin of the DOJ.
But De Lima did note elaborate on how many hackers have been traced or caught by the NBI. “Pinapoprofile ko na sila [hackers]... ‘yung mga natunton na involved.”
“Tinitignan pa kung sindikato ito or loosely formed group, o kung hiwa-hiwalay. Yung ang vineverify ng NBI,” De Lima added.
After the Cybercrime Prevention Crime Law took effect last Wednesday, De Lima ordered the NBI to pursue hackers who defaced government website in an apparent show of defiance against the new law, Republic Act 10175.
Last week, hackers have defaced major government sites including the official websites of the Official Gazette (www.gov.ph), the Senate (www.senate.gov.ph) and the House of Representatives (www.congress.gov.ph). — Rouchelle Dinglasan/RSJ, GMA News
