NBA: JR Smith suspended for game four versus Celtics
New York Knick and reigning Sixth Man of the Year JR Smith has been suspended by the NBA for game four of his team's Eastern Conference quarterfinals series against the Boston Celtics, the league announced Saturday (Sunday, PHL time) on their website. [Related: Knicks rout Celtics anew, move one game away from sweep] Smith struck Celtic Jason Terry in the head with an elbow in the fourth quarter of the game three, a 90-76 win that put the Knicks on the verge of a sweep over their division rivals. In the blog post announcing the suspension, Smith is quoted as saying, "I was trying to draw the foul. “He reached in one time. I thought he was going to reach in a second time and I was going to try to get a quick shot off, but they made a call that the refs saw and there’s not really much I can do about it.” Smith is averaging 16.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists in the playoffs this season, sooting 31.3 percent from downtown, 43.5 percent overall. - AMD, GMA News
