The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters will be putting their 101-100 loss against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel under protest.

“We feel that we were robbed of a win,” said RoS head coach Yeng Guiao as he addressed the media after the loss, Saturday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum. “It was an obvious no-foul. Referee [Nol] Quilinguen does not deserve to officiate in this league.”

With two seconds left in the game, Beau Belga challenged Mac Baracael’s last-ditch effort to win the ball game for Ginebra. Belga partially blocked Baracael’s shot, but referee Quilinguen called a foul. The contact that merited the foul was Belga touching Baracael’s off hand after the ball was already released.

Another issue raised by the ROS management was the time left after the said foul. The referees conferred and decided there was only 0.3 seconds left. However, the replay showed that the contact happened with still 1.3 seconds left on the clock, which would have given the Elasto Painters a better shot at winning the game.

“Tumawag siya nung nasa kamay na ni Arizona Reid yung bola,” lamented Guiao. “Kung pumasok yun, baka di siya tumawag.”

Rain or Shine management will officially file the complaint to the PBA office tomorrow. - RAF, GMA News
