Apple requires iOS7 optimization for new apps

Starting Feb. 1, developers of apps for Apple mobile devices will have to make sure their creations are optimized for iOS 7, Apple announced this week.

In a Dec. 17 announcement, Apple said new apps and app updates submitted to the App Store should use the latest version of Xcode 5.

"Starting February 1, new apps and app updates submitted to the App Store must be built with the latest version of Xcode 5 and must be optimized for iOS 7," it said.

A separate report on tech site CNET said this is nothing new for Apple, which it said pushes developers toward its latest operating system.

CNET added iOS 7 has been Apple's "most drastic overhaul" of the mobile OS for devices like iPod touches, iPads and iPhones.

However, it also noted Apple has "at times" been more lenient with developers sticking with older versions.

In this case, it said the new app store restriction "looks like it's trying to put all developers on the same page." — TJD, GMA News
