The peso lost 4.5 centavos Thursday, as the dollar rose ahead of the US employment data to be released in Washington.

The peso-dollar exchange rate settled at 45.155:$1 when the trading closed. The local currency lost 2 centavos at 45.11 on Wednesday

"As fears of the Greek crisis lessened, the focus has shifted to the US employment data to be released tonight. Bets that tonight’s data will show an improvement in the US labor market influenced the dollar to appreciate,” MetisEtrade Inc. analyst Cherica Vicente said.

Bets are that 233,000 jobs were created in the US last month, reflecting a decline in the unemployment rate to 5.4 percent from 5.5 percent in May, Vicente added. – Keith Richard Mariano/VS, GMA News
