Miss Universe PH Celeste Cortesi's swimsuit features handprints of children from Marawi
Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi is making sure that the people she advocates for are with her even in the middle of her campaign for the Miss Universe 2022.
The most recent posts on the Miss Universe Philippines Instagram account features images of Celeste competing in the Miss Universe preliminary rounds, which include the swimsuit competition.
Celeste easily distinguished herself from the other contestants with a cape that featured different colored handprints. The handprints were made by children from Marawi that Celeste met during her time visiting there with Save the Children.
In a succeeding post on the Miss Universe Philippines Instagram account, Celeste explained that she wanted to bring the voices of the children with her on stage.
“The imprints all over the cape remind me that having a title means to have a purpose beyond myself. Having talked to some of the mothers of the children beneficiaries, I was reminded of my own Mother who struggled to provide for my sister and I,” she said.
Celeste visited these Lanao del Norte communities before flying off to the United States. In a post on her Instagram account after her visit, Celeste shared that her time in Lanao del Norte reminded her of the importance of doing one's part to make a change.
Just yesterday, Celeste also posted about Smile Train, the “world's largest cleft charity,” on her Instagram account. In the caption, Celeste shared that Smile Train's work enables cleft palate operations to happen in “more than 90 countries” as well as comprehensive cleft care.
Months before Christmas, Celeste also helped repackage relief goods to “truly kickstart the holiday season” for families that have been victims of a fire in Sampaloc, Manila.
Celeste is competing for the newly revealed “Force for Good” crown. Made by jewelry and luxury watch company Mouawad, the crown features 110 carats of blue sapphires and 48 carats of white diamonds.
The Miss Universe Philippines organization has called on Filipinos to help Celeste “carve her path” to the crown by voting on the Miss Universe app.
