Son Ye-jin shares how she feels about endorsing a Filipino brand

By Bianca Geli

After landing on the hearts of Filipinos with her hit K-dramas such as Crash Landing on You, South Korean actress Son Ye-jin is making her mark as the new face of a local telecommunications brand.

Son Ye-jin was officially announced as an endorser for Smart Signature, the postpaid brand of mobile services provider Smart Communications, Inc.

The big announcement came two months after the 'Simple, Smart Ako' campaign, which was headlined by its endorser Hyun Bin--Son Ye-jin's onscreen partner for Crash Landing on You.

During Son Ye-jin's television commercial shoot, she was interviewed behind-the-scenes and asked how she felt when she was first tapped to endorse Smart Signature.

Son Ye-jin answered, "I was very happy. Actually, I wanted to go to the Philippines and shoot.

"The fans who loved the drama sent me so many messages of support on social media," she continued.

"I am really happy to shoot an advertisement for a Philippine brand, and it's even better because it's a Smart advertisement.

"It's just so sad that I could not come to see all the fans in person. But I'm always thankful and happy to meet them this way."

She also described herself off-cam as a regular person who tries her best to fulfill her acting roles.

"There's nothing special about me. In front of the camera, I'm always in character with the given role, so I tend to stick to it. But behind the camera, I think I'm just ordinary. I'm the same person as you guys."

Son Ye-jin also shared a tip on how to succeed in one's chosen career path.

"Well, I am not sure if I've already succeeded, but I think young people who just started not only in acting but also in other fields, are going to be so scared and experience hardships.

"Same as my experience, but it helps that I've always set a goal, and even if you're not really close to that goal yet, just try your best to imagine yourself in that future and make the best out of everything.

"Then, think of it as a step closer to your dreams. Keep fighting."

She also admitted that she hasn't determined the best way to succeed yet, and narrated how she spends her time off work.

"I also haven't found it yet. Maybe that should always be our task.

"Especially my job, it's not like I have a switch that I can turn off and turn on.

"So, there are times when I feel torn between my role and the real Son Ye-jin.

"But in the end, I tend to push myself more when I'm working.

"So, when I'm not working, I just rest and recharge so I can show you a better me.

"I think sometimes you shouldn't push yourself too hard and take some rest to relax a little bit."

The Korean actress is known to be fond of traveling whenever she's not filming, so she gave tips on how to enjoy traveling.

"First of all, I'm a very organized traveler. There's always a limited time when you're traveling, so I really think of how I can spend my time happily and effectively within that time.

"And most importantly, you must have a good roaming plan," she suggested.

Son Ye-jin described how she prepares for roles and relates it to learning new things.

"I played a lot of different roles, in my case, no matter what character I play, I try to find a similar aspect in that character. I think that's the best tip I can give."

Son Ye-jin also spoke about the coronavirus pandemic the world is facing today and how she tries to stay healthy, and says it's the most important thing in life for her.

"There is a health issue that the whole world is facing today.

"I also need to be healthy to be able to work. And health is the most important thing to be able to spend quality time with the people I love.

"That's why I'm constantly exercising and trying to eat good food," she concluded.
