Abandoned newborn baby rescued along Malabon road

An abandoned newborn baby was rescued along the side of a road in Barangay Potrero, Malabon City on Monday morning, the Northern Police District (NPD) said.

In a statement, the NPD said 20-year-old vendor Marlyn Amado found the baby inside a red eco bag along the corner of Santol Road and McArthur Highway at around 6:40 a.m.

According to a 24 Oras report by Raffy Tima on Tuesday, the child was discovered inside an ecobag next to a hotel.

The child still had an umbilical cord attached to it and appeared to be in a normal condition aside from dried blood on its face.

According to Amado, she was informed by a man about the baby, and noticed that he had blood on his shoe.

“Nung chineck namin sa CCTV, siya rin pala yung nag-iwan ng ecobag na red na ‘yun, sir,” said Malabon Police chief of investigation Police Captain Lalaine Almosa.

(When we checked the CCTV footage, we found that he was the person who left the red ecobag.)

The police are currently conducting a search for the man, who could face criminal charges.

“The infant was transported to MakaTao Hospital for immediate medical evaluation and care. The baby is currently under observation at the hospital and receiving all necessary medical attention,” police said.

“Authorities are conducting a comprehensive investigation to identify the person(s) who abandoned the baby,” the NPD added.

The NPD commended the efforts of the police officers and Amado who responded to the incident. According to the NPD, Amado’s prompt notification was instrumental in saving the newborn’s life.

“The NPD urges anyone with information that may assist in the investigation to come forward.  Working together, we can create a safer environment for all children in our community,” it said.—Joviland Rita/RF, GMA Integrated News
