UPPC in SCG Paper, the Philippinesâ leading manufacturer of high quality and cost-efficient industrial grade paper, won two environment awards recently. UPPC in SCG paper won the following awards:
the 2010 Don Emilio Abello Energy Efficiency Awards (DEAEEA) on December 7, 2010, and the Philippine Environment Partnership Program (PEPP) on December 17. Don Emilio Abello Energy Efficiency Awards One of the longest-running and highly-esteemed energy efficiency awards in the country, the DEAEEA gave UPPC in SCG Paper the Outstanding Award for improving its energy performance. UPPC in SCG paper lowered by at least 5% its specific energy consumption through energy efficiency and conservation programs. UPPC in SCG Paper went beyond the regular requirements set by the DEAEEA by achieving 9.10% PECO. The company garnered an energy savings of 5,482,100 LOE or a monetary equivalent of P171,041,520. It also avoided the production of 9,451,897 kg of CO₂. UPPC in SCG Paper achieved these by improving manufacturing processes and implementing system upgrades, resulting in energy efficient and environment-friendly operations. UPPC in SCG Paperâs Energy Conservation (ENERCON) committee found ways to meet the standards set by their company and the DEAEE. The company's representative, Steam and Power Generation Section Manager Ireneo Paulino Jr., was also given the Outstanding Energy Manager Award. The awards represent the companyâs contribution to energy efficiency, conservation goals of the country and the substantial effort to mitigate climate change. Philippine Environment Partnership Program The Philippine Environment Partnership Programp (PEPP), pursuant to DENR Administrative Order 2003-14, is a DENR partnership program with industries, in cooperation with the other environment-related agencies. The program aims to support industry self-regulation towards improved environmental performance. The PEPP seeks to provide a package of incentives and reward mechanisms to industries in effective voluntary self-regulation and improved environmental performance. âWe are extremely pleased to cap off 2010 with the addition of these three new green awards. In 2010 alone, UPPC in SCG Paper received the following Green Awards: Silver Rating Award under the Regional Industrial EcoWatch Program from the Department of Environment & Natural Resources (DENR) and Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), Region III. The Silver Rating was given shortly after DENR recognized UPPC in SCG Paper for the quality of its air emissions and water effluent; Major award as Candidate Master for its systems compliance and best practices in waste management in the Zero Basura Olympics (ZBO) for Business; and Champion for Reuse/Recycling for its 100% use of recycled paper and âzero sludge to landfill" project also for Zero Basura Olympics.
