Miriam College celebrates 85 years of Expanding Horizons and Creating Impact

Miriam College launched the celebration of its 85th anniversary last June 16, 2011 in meaningful ceremonies held at the Marian Auditorium on Katipunan Avenue. With the theme “Expanding Horizons, Creating Impact," the celebration opened with a production that traces the journey of the institution from its beginnings as a teacher training school in Malabon in 1926 to finally planting its permanent roots in Diliman, Quezon City. The presentation also celebrated the indelible legacy of the brave and progressive Maryknoll nuns of New York and the invaluable contributions of the lay presidents who came after them to make Miriam College the premiere women’s institution it is today.

In her speech, Miriam College President Dr. Rosario Oreta Lapus urged community members to deepen their commitment to the vision and mission of the institution. “Let us continue our work of giving quality Catholic, Filipino education to our students, serving the communities around us, and developing effective programs for a 21st century institution and 21st century learners,"she said. Lapus also led the entire school community in unveiling the official 85th anniversary logo. The event was capped by performances staged by the school’s homegrown talents including the award-winning Miriam College High School Glee Club and the school’s orchestra-in-residence, the Metro Manila Concert Orchestra, led by renowned conductor Prof. Chino Toledo.
