Following the successful launch of the countryâs first Cinematheque at the Casa Vallejo in Baguio City, and the showing of vintage pre-war movie classics led by Anak Dalita, a new collection of Filipino films is set for screening from September 24 to October 2.

Billed as âIntimations of Magnitudeââto signify a sampling of what could be the best representative Filipino films from a particular period in Philippine cinemaâthe second batch of films includes works by four of the countryâs most acclaimed mainstream film directors, and two pioneers of independent cinema in the Philippines. The first four are the late Lino Brocka and Ishmael Bernal (both of whom are now National Artists), Mike de Leon and Celso Ad. Castillo, and the last two are Raymond Red and Baguioâs own Kidlat Tahimik (Eric de Guia). Brocka is represented in this retrospective by Jaguar (1979), Kapit sa Patalim (Bayan Ko, 1984), and Cain at Abel (1982); Bernal by Himala (1982); Mike de Leon by Sister Stella L (1984); Celso Ad. Castillo by Burlesk Queen (1977); Kidlat Tahimik by Perfumed Nightmare (1977); and Raymond Red by Anino (2000).
