Globe Adventure Taal on November 26, 2011

The controversy generated by the proposal of a Holly-wood sign on Taal Volcano only showed how people regard this national treasure. Everyone loves Taal but is anyone doing something to protect it? The Protected Area Management Board in charge of the conservation of Taal Volcano Protected Landscape (TVPL) unanimously approved a Management Plan on November 26, 2009. Simple, easily understandable and widely consulted, the plan is intended to solve the major problems plaguing the lake, including fishcage proliferation , solid waste and sewage discharges into the lake. The Pusod-organized Globe Adventure Taal is a race that involves running, biking and kayaking by teams of six. It is being organized together with Team Ganit and Philippine Kayaking Association to highlight the Management Plan and the contributions of various sectors in its implementation. It also aims to solicit not only more contributions but also engender compliance of the rules among the communities surrounding the lake as well as weekenders there.

Along with the event, Pusod is also launching the Taal Lake Conservation Center in Kinalaglagan, Mataasnakahoy, Batangas in cooperation with the Municipality of Mataasnakahoy. It aims to be a research hub, resource and training center and a jump off point for Knowledge Tours to Taal Volcano via Calauit an alternative to the Talisay trails. These tours will offer information on geological, archeological and biodiversity features of the lake basin. Bedspace and tent spaces will be available and plans for educational dioramas and a tank of live tawilis on display are in the drawing board. Press release from PUSOD
