Mi Ultimo Adios in Filipino sign language

It will be poetry rendered by hand. As part of the celebration of Rizal @150 and the 115th Commemoration of Rizal’s martyrdom, Mi Ultimo Adios in Filipino Sign Language will have a special showing on December 29 at 4:00 p.m. at the Rizal Shrine in Fort Santiago, where the legendary poem was originally written.

 

As Jose Rizal was a linguist who spoke at least  22 languages, he might have also probably learned sign language, the language of the Deaf, if he had lived longer.

 

Ms. Mirana Medina, a Filipino independent advocacy filmmaker, did the first  interpretation of Mi Ultimo Adios in Filipino Sign Language. This  project helps in the campaign to spread  Rizal’s work and at the same time emphasizes the worth of other sectors in our society such as the Deaf.   Mi Ultimo Adios in FSL was chosen as the official selection of the Second Hong Kong International Deaf Film Festival. NHCP will  give a chance to Deaf peopleto express themselves to the nation and the world.

 

NHCP works with the  De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde School for the Deaf and  Applied Studies because of the advocacy of the School in the use and promotion of  Filipino Sign Language.  Most of the Deaf consultants and actors of the film are scholars of the school.   Press release from DLSU-CSB SDEAS
