From architecture to biking, it's easy being green at UPM's GIG Talks
For those who have resolved to go green this year, the UP Mountaineers will launch their latest project, Green is Good (GIG) Talks, a lecture series designed to inspire the audience to support environmental advocacy.
The one-day workshop features six lectures which cater to various interests. Plant lovers, photographers, bikers and even architects will be able to appreciate the GIG Talks, which debuts on January 13, 2011 at the College of Architecture in UP Diliman.
The lectures will be delivered by UPM members who hold competent background on their topics:
Nicolo Del Castillo on Green Architecture, Illac Diaz on Light Bottles, Tope Ordonez on IR Photography and Nature, Anthony Arbias on Tropical Plants, Dennis Lopez on Search and Rescue and, Lei Mangubat on Bike Messengers and Commuting.
GIG Talks is one of UPM's activities in pursuit of its mission to promote mouintaineering as a healthy physical activity, as a means of promoting environmental awareness in general and forest conservation in particular. During the lectures, there will also be a musical tribute by Bullet Dumas to slain Botanist and Plant Taxonomist Leonard Co, who is also a member of UPM. A staunch advocate of environmental protection and conservation, Co's last wish was for his ashes to be scattered in the 16-hectare forest dynamics plot he built and worked on in Palanan before he died.
