Ateneo's Kritika Kultura Feb '12 issue features the South African novel
Kritika Kultura, the international refereed electronic journal of literary, language and cultural studies published by the Department of English, Ateneo de Manila University, will launch its February 2012 issue which tackles the theme, “The South African Novel in Transition: 1990-2010” in its special Forum Kritika section.
The launch on February 29, 2012, 4:30 pm at the Ateneo’s Faber Hall Function Room will showcase the special Forum Kritika section guest-edited by Prof. Perter Horn and Prof. Anette Horn of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.
The event is co-sponsored by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts as a satellite event of the fourth edition of Taboan Philippine Writers Festival, held in Pampanga last February 9-11, 2012.
Kritika Kultura's February 2012 Forum Kritika section features eight papers on the said theme. Issue contributors include Chris Thurman, Senior Lecturer at the English Department of the University of the Witwatersrand, editor of the journal Shakespeare in Southern Africa, and compiler of Sport versus Art: A South African Contest (Wits UP, 2010); and Imraan Coovadia, author of three novels including High Low In-Between, which won the Sunday Times Fiction Prize. As explained in the Call for Papers for the issue last year, the papers reflected on the aftermath of 1989 when "the ANC leaders were released from prison, to be followed by Nelson Mandela in 1990."
Guest-editor Peter Horn is Honorary Professor and Research Fellow at the University of the Witwatersrand, and a multi-awarded and well-known South African poet who made his mark through his anti-Apartheid poetry. Co-guest-editor Anette Horn is Assistant Dean Graduate Studies in the same university.
Kritika Kultura is the only humanities journal in the Philippines which is indexed in ISI (now Thomson Reuters). It is also indexed in the MLA International Bibliography, Scopus, EBSCO, Philjol and DOAJ, among others.
