Celebrate the triumph of silent art with Manix Abrera's '3/12'

In '12,' Manix Abrera employs silence as a storytelling technique.
Manix Abrera's graphic novel "12"—which won the 2011 Komikon Awards for Best Graphic Novel/Anthology—employs silence as a storytelling technique, since all 12 stories in the book do not have dialogue.

Now, Flipside Publishing has released “3/12” by Manix Abrera for the Amazon Kindle at $1.99, an affordable way to sample Abrera's graphic novel, as it features three of the stories from “12”, selected by Abrera himself.

"Silent or wordless comics welcome various readings and interpretations. Each panel may give birth to different ways of seeing the world: an endless journey we'd be glad to take," says Abrera.

Abrera has been lauded in numerous circles. Will Eisner Award nominee Gerry Alanguilan describes him as the “premier Filipino cartoonist working today, and ‘12’ as the greatest Filipino graphic novel to be published...” while former Will Eisner Award judge Andrew Wheeler describes “12” as “... an amazing collection of silent comics from a Philippine creator, Manix Abrera, ‘12’—not just the best of the month, but one of the best comics I've ever seen.”

Abrera's “3/12” contains three stories from his bigger book “12”, an award-winning collection of 12 silent stories about life, love, death, and philosophy.
