Instituto Cervantes to cap off Dia del Libro with Argentinean concert

Prepare to swing and sway to the music of Nancy Abalos and the Compañía Argentina de Música as Instituto Cervantes and the Embassy of Argentina present a special one-night performance of the contemporary Argentinean group on Saturday, April 21, 7 p.m. at Instituto Cervantes.
As part of the Día del Libro celebrations, this performance will combine world music with traditional Argentine music—tango, zambas, and chacareras, infusing the charm of the traditional Argentine Tango music with electronically created sounds for a vibrant and energized feel that will appeal to the younger audiences of today.

Despite the breaks from tradition, the emotion, the passion, and the telling of a story through the music and the dance will still be the focus of this three-man band. Nancy Abalos and the Compañía Argentina de Musica’s repertoire will include traditional tango and folklore from Peru, Cuba, Colombia,Venezuela and Brazil.

Singer, percussionist and composer, Nancy Abalos was born in Buenos Aires and raised in the city of Mar del Plata. She is the daughter of pianist Adolfo Abalos and was influenced with the music and arts at a very young age.

She began her solo career in 1985, participating in different Latin American music festivals. In the mid-90s, she became a resident in the Salvador de Bahia and with another group in Rio de Janeiro. It was during those years that she strengthened her credentials as a soloist, mainly in the Latin American repertoire.

In 1997, she returned to Argentina and recorded her first album. From 2005 to 2008, she traveled around Europe, performing in cities in Spain, England and Greece. She was also awarded with the Atahualpa Solo Female Vocal in 2009.

Her music will be lyrical and entertaining and spectators will surely enjoy this event as the capping event of the Día del Libro celebration.

Nancy Abalos and the Compañía Argentina de Música is organized by Instituto Cervantes de Manila as part of the Día del Libro.
