DLSU on its next 100 years

With the culmination of its yearlong centennial celebration on June 15, 2012, De La Salle University has embarked on key projects and innovative programs that reaffirm its commitment to the vision of its Founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle, to provide a human and Christian education that will transform lives, especially of the poor.

One of the highlights of its centennial year was the launch of its new vision-mission, which underscores a faith-filled education towards the holistic development of students and an excellence-driven pursuit of research.

DLSU also launched during the year three new scholarship programs. To date, there are 12 types of scholarships offered by the University.

Full scholarship and other incentives are given to 50 top graduates of public schools under the Vaugirard Scholarship Program and to another 25 students pursuing Engineering programs under the Gokongwei grants. Meanwhile, 100 students receive a 15% tuition discount every term for being part of the Top Achievers in the Freshman Test, or TAFT 100.

The University has also undertaken major infrastructure development in anticipation of its future need for more space. The Henry Sy, Sr. Hall, its new eco-friendly building on Taft Avenue, will house a million books and a vast collection of digital materials. The BERDE-accredited building was designed by renowned architectural firm LV Locsin Partners. Some parts of the hall will be open to the public.

To strengthen its bid to be a regional knowledge hub for technological innovation, the University is also expanding south of Manila with the development of the DLSU Science and Technology Complex at the Leandro V. Locsin Campus, a 50-hectare sprawling campus adjacent the Laguna Technopark. The DLSU-STC will include new academic buildings, research centers, modern dorm facilities, and staff housing. It will promote strong collaboration with its neighboring industry partners as well as with regional research centers.

“True to our shared Lasallian values of faith, service, and communion, I am confident that the DLSU community will build on what has been started in the past,” DLSU Centennial President Br. Narciso Erguiza, Jr. FSC said.
