1,000 cyclists to join 'Ride for Cory' in support of Pinoys with cancer

“Filipinos afflicted with cancer, along with those who take care of them, are in constant need of medical and psychosocial support,” said Robert ‘Bobbit’ Suntay, Co-founder and Executive Director of the Cancer Resource and Wellness (Carewell) Community Foundation, during the press launch of ‘Ride for Cory 3’ during the Philippine Sports Writers Association Forum at Shakey’s-U.N. Avenue in Manila last June 26, 2012.

He explained that the non-competitive ride, to be held on August 4 in Tarlac in partnership with the Cory for Carewell Cyclists, is one of the ways by which the Carewell Community hopes to build awareness for their advocacy and to raise funds by which to sustain their services.

“Ride for Cory" is a biking event that has traditionally been held during the first few days of August to commemorate the death anniversary of former President Cory Aquino,” said Jamike Lopa of the Cory for Carewell Cyclists.

“As we all know, she also suffered from cancer, and I am sure that, had she survived, she would have wanted to lend her name to a well-organized effort to ease the burden for those afflicted with the disease. Thus, we are riding in her memory and in support of all Filipinos undergoing this difficult journey.”

Now on its third year, ‘Ride for Cory’ is expected to attract 1,000 cyclists from Metro Manila and Central Luzon. The 60-kilometer route will cover Robinson’s Luisita, Tarlac City, La Paz, Concepcion, and Capas.
