FEU – Manila granted autonomous status

Reaffirming its status as one of the country’s leading universities, Far Eastern University

(FEU) – Manila has recently been accorded Autonomous Status by the Philippine

Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

 

In a letter sent by CHED Chair Patricia B. Licuanan to FEU President Lydia Echauz, it

was stated that CHED’s en banc resolution granted FEU-Manila the Autonomous Status

effective July 25, 2012 up to May 31, 2014.

 

As the highest and most prestigious recognition awarded by CHED to higher education

institutions, the Autonomous Status was bestowed on FEU as it satisfies the three major

criteria set by the commission: a long tradition of integrity and untarnished reputation,

commitment to excellence, and sustainability and viability of operations.

 

“I would like to congratulate and thank everyone at FEU-Manila for this achievement,”

says President Echauz. “It is indeed a great honor and reflects FEU’s continuous pursuit

of academic distinction.”

 

With its newly conferred autonomy, FEU now enjoys the following benefits: (1)

exemption from the issuance of Special Order for its graduates, (2) freedom from regular

monitoring and evaluation by CHED, (3) priority in the grant of subsidies and other

financial incentives/assistance from the Commission whenever funds are available,

(4) privilege to determine and prescribe its curricular programs to achieve global

competence, (5) privilege to offer new course(s)/program(s) in the undergraduate and

graduate level without securing permit/authority from CHED, except in disciplines that

are under moratorium, (6) privilege to establish branch/es or satellite campus/es without

securing government authority from CHED, and (7) authority to grant Honoris Causa to

those deserving, per pertinent provisions of existing CHED issuance on conferment of
