Association for Adults with Autism Philippines holds first symposium on Oct. 13

The Association for Adults with Autism, Philippines invites you to attend a one-day symposium on diagnostic, treatment and policy issues affecting adults with autism on October 13, 2012.

 

The objective of the symposium is to gain understanding and insights not only on the fundamentals of autism but also on recent updates in its diagnostics and relevant local policy issue.

 

This is the first educational activity organized by AAAP towards raising awareness of and addressing the needs of adults with autism. "Growing older rarely diminishes the impairments of autism; more often, growing older brings new needs. We have invited experts in the field to share with us their ideas and experiences," said Lirio Covey, AAAP President.

 

Covey, a Professor of Clinical Psychology in Psychiatry, will give a talk on Autism Spectrum Disorders: Criteria and Causes.

 

Atty. Nina Patricia Sison-Arroyo, Assistant Director of the Ateneo Legal Services Center, will discuss Philippine Laws on the rights of Persons with Disabilities.

 

Meanwhile, Dr. Christine Leonor Conducto will talk about Medical and Pharmological Interventions for Persons with Autism. 

 

Dr. Lourdes "Honey" Carandang will discuss a Comprehensive Framework for Understanding Autism and Families with Autism, and Dr. Erlinda Camara will discuss Enhancing Creativity among Persons with Disabilities.

 

Ronald Sanchez, director of the Camphill Community in Santa Cruz, California, will give a talk on Residential Community Living for Adults with Autism: the Life Sharing Model.

 

The symposium will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Justitia Room, 4/F, Ateneo Law School, Rockwell Center, Makati City.

 

On-site registration is P2,000. Students who present ID with picture may register for P1,500.
