Goethe Institut takes to Facebook to foster 'liking' for German songs


Twelve groups of high school students across Metro Manila have moved to the German groove in Facebook videos of themselves dancing and singing their way to an Oktoberfest in Taguig City.   A project of the Goethe Institut and the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce, the Facebook song and dance contest heralds in the Mabuhay Germany festivities at Bonifacio High Street on October 14.   99 Luftballons and Schöne neue Welt happen to be the two most popular karaoke versions of German songs in the Goethe Institut playlist.   Voting by ‘liking’ began September 26 and ends on October 7.   “The three groups from each division with the most number of “Likes” by 12:00am on 8 October will be invited to perform live at the main stage of the Mabuhay Germany 2012 on 14 October,” the Goethe Institut said in its mechanics.   The contest was also open to college students, but according to the list of official entries, all submissions were by students from these high schools:

  • New Era HS - Fallschirm
  • San Juan HS (Group KEWL) - 99 Luftballons
  • Pasay City West HS - Monsta
  • New Era HS - 99 Luftballons
  • New Era HS - 99 Luftballons
  • New Era HS (RRRRAK) - Schöne neue Welt
  • Paranaque National HS - Monsta
  • Novaliches HS - Fallschirm
  • Pasay City West HS - Monsta
  • Pasay City West HS - Schöne neue Welt
  • San Juan National HS - Küssen verboten
