Ateneo holds confab on sociology and social transformations in the Asia Pacific region
Scholars and sociology experts from the Philippines, Asia, USA, Australia, and Europe will gather for the 11th Asia Pacific Sociological Association (APSA) Conference on October 22-24, 2012 at the Ricardo and Dr. Rosita Leong Hall, Ateneo de Manila University.
With the theme "Sociology and Social Transformations in the Asia Pacific Region," the 3-day conference will have distinguished lectures and parallel series from renowned professors abroad and from the Philippines.
Delivering the distinguished lecture series are Raewyn Connell of the University of Sydney, Australia; Michael Hsiao of the Academia Sinica, Taipei; Filomeno Aguilar Jr. of the Philippine Sociological Society and the Ateneo de Manila University; Michael Burawoy, President of the International Sociological Association and University of California Berkeley; Maria Cynthia Rose Bautista of the Commission in Higher Education, University of the Philippines Diliman; Surichai Wungaeo of the Thai Sociological Congress, Social Science Association of Thailand, and Chulalongkorn University, Thailand; Vineeta Sinha of the National University of Singapore; Dang Nguyen Anh of the Vietnamese Academy of Social Science, Vietnam; Emma Porio of the Ateneo de Manila.
Some of the parallel sessions include Gender and the Family-Household, Muslim-Filipino Identity, Social Development Strategies, Globalization and Education and Military Sociology and Security.
After the conference, there will be an optional tour for interested delegates.
