CJ Sereno to lead speakers at IBP Greater Manila 8th Regional Confab


The Integrated Bar of the Philippines for Greater Manila Region (IBP-GMR), headed by Gov. Dominic "Dom" Solis, the youngest governor in the IBP Board of Governors, will be holding its eighth regional convention on November 9, 2012, at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria Hotel, Ortigas Avenue, Quezon City. The guest speakers will be led by Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes A. Sereno.
 
Other speakers are Aurora Representative Juan Edgardo “Sonny” M. Angara; former University of the Philippines (UP) law dean Marvic M.V.F. Leonen, who served as chief government peace negotiator with the Bangsamoro; Assistant Secretary Geronimo L. Sy of the Department of Justice.
 
Also speaking are former Secretary Ivan John E. Uy, who once chaired the now defunct Commission on Information and Communications Technology; UP Law professor Jose Jesus “JJ” M. Disini, Jr.; and Atty. Alexander “Alex” L. Lacson, author of the book “12 Little Things Every Filipino Can Do To Help Our Country.”
 
The biennially-celebrated confab brings together in fellowship not only IBP-GMR lawyers but is also open to all lawyers from all over the country. The convention’s theme is “The Rule of Law: Catalyst for Change.”
 
The day-long event will be held for the first time in Quezon City, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. All lectures are Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) accredited for all lawyers attending.
 
Chief Justice Sereno will speak on “Reforms in the Judiciary” while Dean Leonen will talk about “The Legal Ramifications of the Bangsamoro Peace Agreement”.
Atty. Alex Lacson will then lecture on “The Lawyer as Agent of Social Change” followed by a “Panel Discussion on the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012” conducted by Prof. Disini, Asec. Sy and former Sec. Uy. The lectures will be capped off by Aurora Rep. Angara who will discuss the “Salient Features of Laws Authored in the 15th Congress.”
 
After the lectures, there will be Fellowship Night Festivities with the theme of “Looking Through the Eyes of the Law” and participants are encouraged to wear their most unique eye-pieces or masks.
 
The registration fee of only P1,500 is inclusive of two buffet meals (lunch and dinner, originally worth P3,000), merienda, and bottomless coffee and tea; a swag bag containing the souvenir program; photobooth souvenir photographs; and a raffle ticket (cool prizes are at stake).
