Jamie's Chef winner Aaron Craze challenges local food heroes to a taste off

Self-taught British chef, restaurateur and author Aaron Craze takes viewers on a fantastic journey around the world as he takes on homegrown food personalities to prove he can put his own spin on beloved national dishes and prepare them as well as the local experts. Part-travelogue, part-competitive culinary show, Taste Off pits this charismatic host against chefs in eight cities, across four countries on a trail for the most tasty and authentic fare in an enjoyable fusion of cooking, travel and contest. The eight-part series premieres on TLC every Tuesday at 9:00 p.m., starting December 18, with encores on Friday at 8:00 p.m., Saturday at 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., and Sunday at 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

 

Known for winning Jamie’s Chef, the ex-carpet fitter turned top chef is a newbie to travel but has formidable expertise in the kitchen. Now armed with a passport and a mission, Aaron selects one favourite local dish out of the three presented in each city he visits then goes head-to-head with the resident master – from chefs at five-star restaurants to family foodies and roadside cooks - by recreating it in his own inimitable style. 

 

Each 30-minute episode culminates with a blind taste test where the discerning local audience will choose the best tasting dish. Can an outside chef out-cook the experts on their own soil? Whether it’s feojiada in Brazil or kangaroo in Australia, Aaron puts his own distinctive twist on national dishes at every stop, in the hope that he will win the favour of his hosts.    

 

Join Aaron on his voyage to seek out the best local dishes in some of the culinary capitals of the world. How will chefs from Mexico to Malaysia react to Aaron and how will he fare against these natives? Will Aaron be able to put his personal stamp on a local delicacy and turn it into a new and tastier combination? Or will he leave town with his apron strings between his legs?
