Dual Survival features two people with drastically different backgrounds and survival srategies who take on some of the harshest terrains to demonstrate how the right skills and some creative thinking can keep you alive even in the most dangerous situations. Dual Survival 3 premieres every Tuesday at 11:00 p.m., starting March 12. Encores every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
Experts agree there are some very basic and universal rules for surviving in the wild. Find shelter, water, food and help. Beyond that, there is not much they agree on. No one knows this better than Cody, one of the world's foremost experts in self-reliance and living off the land, and Joseph, a former Force Recon Marine, Army Special Forces “Green Beret” and an ex-operative in one of the most top-secret government counter-terrorist units in the world. In the 11-part series of Dual Survival 3, the duo is dropped into a wider variety of survival scenarios that could happen to anyone; facing dangerous predators like lions and leopards while hiding from poachers who may mistake them for animals, falling prey to rushing rapids whilst white water rafting, battling dehydration and hypothermia in the desert, getting stuck at the bottom of abandoned mine shafts, and more.
Equipped only with the minimal gear that would have been carried in real-life situations, Cody and Joseph must draw upon their arsenal of knowledge and skills as well as their surroundings to show what it takes to stay alive.

How will their urine help them to stay alive in Chile’s Atacama desert? How will they use a tin can and cotton bandana to make fire in the Hawaiian jungle? Or turn carpenter ants into sutures to treat an open wound on the side of a volcano in Nicaragua? In the ultimate test of skill, perseverance and ingenuity, watch how naturalist, Cody, and military-trained, Joseph, battle the elements – and sometimes each other in the following episodes of Dual Survival 3:
Mars on Earth
The Atacama Desert in Northern Chile is a place so barren and geographically unique that NASA has dubbed it, "Mars on Earth", and uses it to test rovers bound for the red planet. Cody and Joseph follow in the footsteps of a power paraglider who crash-landed on one of the Atacama’s towering volcanoes. Watch as the guys demonstrate how to escape from one of the world’s highest desert landscapes that offer hardly any resources for survival and limited oxygen. Both feel the effects of hypoxia but Joseph risks the physical danger and climbs another 17,000 feet to collect ice and snow to melt for water. Meanwhile, Cody looks for a campsite for the night - one that will protect them from the freezing night time temperatures.
The Green Hell Ecuador’s vast Oriente region spans from the eastern slopes of the Andes Mountains to the thick jungles of the Amazon basin. This largely unpopulated tropical region covers over 50,000 square miles of dense rainforest and twisting Amazon River tributaries. In this episode, Cody and Joseph dive into the shoes of two white water rafters whose raft has fallen prey to the rushing rapids and jutting rocks of the Amazon jungle’s deadliest waterway.
Trouble in Paradise
Hawaii conjures images of luxury resorts and hotels, but there are many rugged, uninhabited islands that pepper the Pacific Ocean, where aggressive wild boars run rampant, posing a violent threat to hunters and unsuspecting visitors. In this episode, Joseph and Cody take on the plight of a spear hunter who gets spun around and lost while pursuing a boar in the dense, humid jungle. As the guys descend the jungle mountainside, their first hazard is the seemingly impassable tangled web of Hau forest, making walking in a straight line virtually impossible.
On the Menu
South Africa's Eastern edge, the Low Veld, is one of the most ecologically diverse habitats in the world and is home to the “big five game”: lions, leopards, cape buffalo, elephants, and rhinos. Thousands of people are drawn to this region’s raw beauty, but each year dozens are killed. In this episode, Cody and Joseph step into the scenario of two game wardens, who ventured deep into the bush, overheated their truck, and lost sight of their way back. Watch as the guys demonstrate how to make it out of the South African bush before being eaten alive.
Melt Down
Joseph and Cody take on Zambia, a landlocked country in Southern Africa stretching over 250,000 square miles of arid plains and winding rivers, teeming with dangerous wildlife. The threats include elephants that can easily crush a person to death, and territorial hippos which are known to attack humans without provocation.
Exposed to triple digit temperatures that can cause deadly hyperthermia in just hours, the guys begin their journey where two lost campers left off, and must use all their survival skills to get out alive.
Belly of the Beast
The Apuseni Mountains of Romania possess a frigid terrain of cloud-covered peaks and dead-end valleys that hide one of the planet’s largest concentrations of underground caves. Joseph and Cody are thrown into the deadly scenario of amateur cavers, who were hit by a flash flood, and are now lost and disoriented in the dark, deep underground. With only limited equipment including two broken carbide headlamps, a pad of paper, and a Mylar space blanket, Joseph and Cody use their survival skills, mixed with a little ingenuity to show how to get out alive.
