Digital-first ebook on Macapagal-Arroyo term and its historical context

As the 2013 local campaign season begins, author Ken Fuller looks back on the previous president's term and traces the history of the country's sociopolitical and economic problems in The Long Crisis: Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Philippine Underdevelopment, an original nonfiction ebook that is now available in leading ebook retailers.

"As implied by the title, the book deals with the Arroyo years. In doing so, however, the point is made that while the various scandals were hitting the headlines there were two elephants in the room — the Philippines' relationship with the USA and this country's dysfunctional economy that merited far more attention than they received," said Ken Fuller, author of The Long Crisis: Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Philippine Underdevelopment.

While the book necessarily deals with the well-known examples of (alleged) misbehavior by the Macapagal-Arroyo administration, Ken Fuller distinguishes his writing by focusing on the country's colonial history, discussing how the challenges faced by government are merely symptoms of a larger, long-term crisis.

British expatriate author Ken Fuller is the author of Forcing the Pace, which was a finalist for the National Book Award in 2008, and A Movement Divided. He was previously a labor union official in London before settling in the Philippines in 2003. He is currently a columnist for The Daily Tribune.

The Long Crisis: Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Philippine Underdevelopment is initially available for $4.99 at Amazon and Flipreads, and will later be available at other leading ebook retailers.
