Ateneo offers Sayaw (Wudao), Chinese Dance Extension Program this summer
Looking for a fun exercise that will also make you culturally aware at the same time? Explore the cultures of China and the Philippines this summer through the art of dance. The Chinese Studies Program, together with the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, invite you to Sayaw (Wudao), A Chinese Dance Extension Program, from April 16 to May 24, 2013 (Tuesdays and Thursdays) at the Leong Hall Roofdeck.
Students of the summer dance program will be introduced to the rich culture of China through the different dances. Rooted in age-old tradition, Chinese folk and court dances reflect the lives and values of the ethnic groups that practice them. The dances they will be learning will also encourage them to appreciate the similarities between the Philippine and Chinese cultures.
The dance classes will focus mainly on the teaching of Chinese and Filipino traditional folk dances. It is supplemented by aerobic warm-up exercises and stretching providing students with a complete body workout.
The summer dance program will have a culminating activity in the form of a dance recital on May 24, 2013 (Friday). The recital will feature the performances of the summer dance extension program and other performing groups.
Each session is 90 minutes long. Students should come in black leggings and black fitted shirt/leotard. For the culminating activity, students will be asked to have one set of white leggings and white fitted shirt or leotard.
