San Beda College Alabang School of Law (SBCA-SOL) launched its law journal, The Bedan Review, at The B Hotel Manila in Muntinlupa City on Thursday, April 11, 2013.
In his speech, School of Law Dean Ulpiano P. Sarmiento III shared that as in the Old Testament where “boys become men when circumcised,” a law school becomes what it embodies to be as an institution of higher learning when it publishes the intellectual creation of a law journal. Notwithstanding the relatively young life of the SBCA-SOL, Dean Sarmiento took much pride in the endeavor taken to finally come up with The Bedan Review which he hoped would reach others.   The Prefect of Student Affairs and the Faculty Adviser of the journal, Atty. Bruce V. Rivera, envisioned The Bedan Review as a law journal that exceeds expectations. He imagined it as “a hip, modern book…like a companion—which is readable.” He found the first issue of the Law Review coming at a most appropriate time. In his words, “the country has been involved with various domestic and international issues, which in all probability, will greatly impact Philippine society and history.” He also urged for more contributions from the Bedan community to be carried on in the years to come as a tradition.             The Bedan Review includes in its first publication the faculty contributions of Ambassador Amado S. Tolentino, Jr. (Sovereignty Over Natural Resources: Change of Concept or Change of Perception?), Former Elections Commissioner Rene V. Sarmiento (Policies and Practices to Deter and Counter Electoral Violence: The Philippine Experience), Justice Japar P. Dimaampao (Philippine Tax System: Shifting Gears!), Atty. Saul Q. Hofileña (The Law of the Sea), Atty. Nicasio C. Cabaneiro (Tax Issues and Concerns on Educational Institutions), Atty. Rita Linda V. Jimeno (Amendments in Rule 65, 41,45 and 58: Streamlining the Judicial System), and Dean Ulpiano Sarmiento III (Students’ Rights to Organization: Deconstructing Freedom of Association).
The Bedan Review features jurisprudential developments in 2012 for Remedial and Commercial laws and updates on newly passed special laws and administrative matters of the Supreme Court.
