Develop a taste for travel with Bobby Chinn on World Café


Work up a hearty appetite while globe-trotting with chef extraordinaire Bobby Chinn as he embarks on a culinary voyage around the world with World Café.

Indulge both your wanderlust and appetite as Bobby crosses land and sea in search of authentic cuisine. In World Café, food is more than just sustenance—it is a reflection of the culture and history behind stunning destinations that were individually selected for the richness and diversity of their food offerings. Join Bobby on a journey of discovery as he tells the stories of nations through food, architecture, and the lives of those who call these exotic locales home. During the course of his travels, he meets knowledgeable and entertaining local characters who give insight on the staple foods and home-grown produce of each country. 

The four-part series World Café premieres every Wednesday at 10:00 p.m. on TLC, starting June 12. Encores every Thursday at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday at 10:00 p.m.

After whetting viewers’ appetites with World Café: Asia and World Café: Middle East, Bobby is ready to have more on his plate. World Café serves up bigger and better portions with the introduction of bold flavours from even more far-flung destinations like Zanzibar, Sicily, Portugal and Peru. The award-winning global nomad is tireless in his navigation through bustling markets, colourful street stalls and culinary landmarks with his trademark passion for food and travel. Watching one famous chef work his magic in the kitchen is a tantalizing treat, but one can expect even more from World Café, which sees the spicy combination of culinary heavyweights as Bobby whips up local delicacies with world-renowned chefs in Michelin-starred restaurants.

Zanzibar
Roving chef Bobby Chinn begins his spicy adventures on Zanzibar Island in Stone Town – a World Heritage site famed for its rich food culture. After shopping for ingredients at Old Town Market, Bobby takes a day trip around local farms and plantations where fresh herbs and spices abound. At nightfall, he stops by Forodhani Gardens for locally fished street food including like goat meat, Zanzibari Pizza, and freshly pressed sugar cane juice. Finally, he indulges in a feast for the senses at the gorgeous Tower Top Restaurant at 236 Huruzume Hotel. Here there resident chef draws inspiration from the cuisines of the African diaspora, Arabia, and the Caribbean. Together, they cook up a storm that includes spicy Pilau Rice – "the dish" of Zanzibar.

Bobby Chinn travels around the island of Sicily experiencing cuisine that reflects the beautiful island’s culture and history. At Palermo, he experiences the Arabic street foods and the island's signature pasta dish made with sardines. He then goes inland to visit one of the Sicily's premiere cooking schools. From there, via the Greek ruins at Agrigento, Bobby travels to Trapani to try out another Arab-influenced dish, a Sicilian couscous. Finally, he heads to the city of Catania, located below the famous volcano, Mount Etna, where he visits a winery on its slopes.

Portugal
Bobby Chinn sails into Lisbon, Portugal’s capital, and cooks a Portuguese rice dish with a local TV chef. Whilst in Lisbon he also checks out some of the wildly diverse restaurants and patisseries, learning more about Portugal’s passion for salted cod. Then, explore the lovely little seaside town of Zambujeira do Mar where Bobby has a near death experience as he joins a local daredevil in fighting his way through massive Atlantic swells to “fish” for a local delicacy: Barnacles!

Peru
Explore the plentiful produce of Lima together with Bobby as he learns how the Spanish influenced the Peruvian palette. Then, head deep into the Andes Mountains to the ancient city of Cusco to explore the traditional flavours of the country. After a visit to Cusco’s central market Bobby goes into the mountains with star Peruvian chef Virgilio Martinez to understand the Incan contribution to Peruvian food. For the final leg of his journey Bobby heads to the Peruvian Amazon and the city of Iquitos where he explores the incredible variety of ingredients on offer with one of the country’s most cutting edge chefs.
