Korea Night marks KCC second anniversary

A night of nonstop performances is set to mark the second year anniversary of the Korean Cultural Center through the “Korea Night,” which will be held on July 19 at the SM Cinema Centerstage at the SM Mall of Asia.

The Korea Night will be headlined by the KPOP Cover Dance Festival, hosted by the Visit Korea Committee in the hopes of further expanding the base of Korean culture as well as to promote awareness of Korean tourism. The local cover dance groups will duke it out on the dance floor and the winning team will be sent to Gangwon, Korea to compete against the representative cover dance teams from around the world.

Supplementing this will be the TAL Musical, a nonverbal performance that fuses both the Korean mask tradition and the Taoist-based Taekwondo training. The TAL Musical will feature a fantastic story harmonized with the Korean traditional dance and Oriental drumming, as well as a set of B-Boy performances regarded as the current cultural icon of the youth.

Apart from the Korea Night, the Korean Cultural Center also had the Pinoy Kpop Star early this month, to be followed by the UP Culture Caravan on July 13 for the month-long anniversary celebration. Also, two exhibitions will be capping off the anniversary with the launch of the “50 Years of Korean Contemporary Printmaking Exhibit” at the Metropolitan Museum on July 31. This exhibit, jointly organized by the Korea Foundation and the Metropolitan Museum will run until August 23, while the Korean Cultural Center is also set to launch the “Hangeul Ornaments Exhibit” from August 16 onwards.

The Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines was established last July 19, 2011 and is offering a variety of programs especially designed for the Filipino market, in response to the growing interest of the locals to Korean culture.
