FedEx Express/Junior Achievement International Trade Challenge provides opportunity for students in Asia Pacific

HONG KONG - The 2013 FedEx Express/Junior Achievement International Trade Challenge (FedEx/JA ITC) Asia-Pacific Finals will take place August 19 to 21 in Hong Kong with students from nine countries competing for the title of Entrepreneur.

The challenge serves as a platform for students to understand how international trade can improve the quality of their lives and communities.

This year, FedEx/JA ITC shortlisted 54 students ages 15 to 19 from Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam to represent their countries and territories at the Regional Finals.

These students demonstrated outstanding business acumen, creativity and entrepreneurial skills at the local challenges in their respective countries, where they were tasked with developing a business plan to promote a product or service in an overseas market using research, strategic planning and marketing strategies.

“FedEx has been at the forefront in educating and inspiring a new generation of Asian entrepreneurs to succeed in the global economy,” said David L. Cunningham, Jr., president, Asia Pacific, FedEx Express.

“The International Trade Challenge is a valuable opportunity for young people to gain firsthand experience about world trade and the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. We are proud that the program has already educated and inspired more than 9,900 young people in the Asia Pacific region since 2007, and we will continue our efforts to foster the entrepreneurial spirits of youth in the future.”

"JA Hong Kong is honored to host the finals of the Asia Pacific Challenge in Hong Kong for the second year in a row.  We anticipate a diverse range of innovative plans and ideas from the 27 student teams. Celebrating our seventh year working with FedEx Express on the International Trade Challenge in Asia Pacific, JA looks forward to inspiring more young people across the region through this exciting program,” said Vivian Lau, CEO, Junior Achievement Hong Kong.

Jointly organized by FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, and JA Worldwide®, the world’s largest non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring and preparing young people to succeed in a global economy, the FedEx/JA ITC provides an opportunity for students to understand business and entrepreneurship. The program allows young people to pursue their dreams of operating and running a small business.

This year, more than 90 FedEx employees volunteered as mentors or to help the students understand the concept of international trade and guide them in the development of their plans. For more information, visit the FedEx Express/Junior Achievement International Trade Challenge Facebook page
