Malolos Heritage Society honors Teresita 'Mama Sita' Reyes




The Malolos Heritage Society recently paid tribute to Teresita “Mama Sita” Reyes, one of its illustrious daughters who had achieved national and global recognition for her contributions to the preservation and advancement of Philippine culinary culture.

The photo gallery entitled: “Mama Sita: Kababayan, Ina, Kusinera” was the group’s way of honoring the Filipino culinary icons through a series of photographs chronicling Mama Sita’s life, and the historical and cultural milieus in which she lived.  The gallery showcased the landmark events that have shaped Mama Sita into the celebrated culinary genius who spearheaded remarkable innovations in food preparation to bring Filipino food into the new century.

The gallery is currently on display at the historic and elegant Casa Real in Paseo del Congreso, Malolos, Bulacan. The event is in line with the celebration of Bulacan Foundation Day and was spearheaded by Lydia Yupangco, Marides Fernando and Charito Reyes, The Malolos Heritage Society is the civic arm of the Malolos Elite Club whose members are scions of prominent families from Malolos. Many of the club’s female members are descendants of the women of Malolos who were addressed by Dr. Jose Rizal in the famous letter “Sa Kababayang Dalaga sa Malolos” (“To the Young Women of Malolos”). Among its past presidents were Lydia ReyesYupangco, Lydia Balatbat-Echauz, Zeny Hipolito-Tengco and Dez Bautista.

Truly, Teresita “Mama Sita” Reyes, a simple Filipina, Ulirang Anak at Ina, Kusinera, fulfilled her role in serving society and nation-building.
