Mandarin Oriental, Manila's Sheung Yuet Night to welcome the mid-autumn moon

Welcome the Mid-Autumn moon in style by celebrating the Sheung Yuet Night on the eve of the Moon Festival at Mandarin Oriental, Manila on Wednesday, September 18. 
 
Auspicious rituals, a sumptuous Lauriat dinner, an engaging moon-cake game, and an exciting raffle will ensure that the whole family enjoys the evening. Tickets to the event are available at the hotel’s mooncake booth in the MO Lounge, and are priced at P2,688 net for adults, and P1,388 net for children. 
 
The grand celebration starts with cocktails at 6 p.m. at the MO Lounge, and an auspicious paai shan ritual and a colorful lantern-lighting ceremony conducted by international geomancer Master Joseph Chau to promote positive chi energy.
 
An opulent Lauriat feast follows in Tin Hau where a team of culinary masters led by Executive Chinese Chef Hann Furn Chen will prepare an eight-course dinner of traditional and contemporary Chinese cuisine, consisting of: Mid-Autumn Special Combination Platter, which includes delicacies such as Marinated jelly fish, Peking duck roll, Crispy eel fritters with spicy plum sauce, and Deep-fried shrimp mousse stuffed in bicho-bicho with mayonnaise.

The main course will comprise delectable dishes such as Double-boiled watercress with sea shell and pork spareribs soup, Beggar’s chicken, Wok-fried prawns with spicy tomato and rice wine sauce Szechuan style, Steamed live garoupa with superior soy sauce, Stir-fried assorted seafood with rainbow vegetable and chives served with oatmeal buns, and Wok-fried u-dong noodles with vegetables and mushrooms in soy sauce. To cap the evening’s lucky meal will be Sweetened lotus seed, longan and honey date, and the traditional Festival homemade mooncake. 
 
Another exciting feature of the festivities will be the fun dice game Pua Tiong Chiu, a popular game played in the Chinese Filipino community, with each table vying for the grand Zhuang Yuan. Lucky diners get to win gift vouchers from the hotel in a raffle.
 
Mooncakes
 
As part of the season’s traditional celebrations, Mandarin Oriental will proffer Chef Hann Furn Chen’s signature homemade Oven-Baked and Snow-Skin mooncakes. Signifying longevity and harmony, the mini and large-sized mooncakes will be available for discerning gift-givers in elegant and functional custom-designed boxes. Made with a Shantung silk finish with customized compartments, the luxurious boxes can be reused for keeping jewelry and keepsakes. Sixteen innovative varieties of these gourmet mooncakes will be on sale until September 19 at the mooncake booth located in the hotel’s MO Lounge and on the first level of Rockwell Powerplant Mall.
 
Occurring on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar when the moon is at its fullest and brightest, the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival has become an occasion for family reunions all over the world. Various legends are tied to the festival, including that of the moon goddess Chang’e, to whom many offer mooncakes today a sign of worship.
