Stella Adler Studio in New York coming back to town this December

The Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) opens doors for professional actors to receive training from a renowned acting school based in New York.

This December, PETA has an early holiday gift for local actors. Flying from the Big Apple is The Stella Adler Studio of Acting, which has produced graduates who have taken the road to the Hollywood and the Broadway scenes.

After the Voice, Text, and Scene Study classes by coaches Andrew Wade and Don Williams are brought to the country in 2011, PETA partners again with the Stella Adler Studio to train professional film, theater and television actors in a 12-day acting technique course.

Founded in 1949, The Stella Adler Studio of Acting has trained thousands of actors who have gone on to notable theater and film careers. Among its students were award-winning Hollywood actors Robert de Niro, Melanie Griffith, Salma Hayek, Sydney Pollack, Martin Sheen and Marlon Brando.

Also on the roster of its notable alumni are award-winning Broadway actors Donna Murphy, Jerome Robbins, and Eva Marie Saint.

Stella Adler was one of the most influential teachers that had contributed in the development of the American actor. Bringing her teachings to the local soil will be an opportunity for Filipino actors to further discover their craft.

One of the greatest champions of her teachings is actor, director, and master teacher Ron Burrus who will be teaching the Technique Class. He is flying to Manila this December as an acting coach to share his experiences. He was once a student of Adler’s and a teaching assistant alongside her in the New York studio.

Burrus has directed a feature film, The Mysterious Death of Kelly Lawman released on cable channels HBO and Cinemax.

Through the sessions which span for 12 days, the Technique Class incorporates a holistic approach to strengthen and develop the actor’s intellect, body, voice, spirit, and imagination.

The Stella Adler Studio of Acting explores on the language and principles of Stella Adler's approach to acting, including action, circumstance, and justification. Throughout the course, students will develop a foundation from which to build themselves as actors as well as human beings. The class will also apply the techniques in acting for film and television

The second-leg of The Stella Adler Studio of Acting will run from December 9 to December 20 at The PETA Theater Center. This class is open to all professional theater, film and television actors. For more inquiries, contact 0906-2115003 or call PETA at 725-6244.
