UK boys' choir Libera to serenade Manila, Cebu during PHL-UK Friendship Week

Libera, the chart-topping all-boys’ choir from London recognized around the world for their angelic voices and beautiful renditions of classical songs, is set to serenade Manila at the PICC Plenary Hall on October 29, and Cebu at SM Seaside Complex on October 31 as the country celebrates the Philippines-UK Friendship Week.

Underscoring the strong bilateral relations between the two countries, the concert is spearheaded by the British Alumni Association’s chairperson Roberto De Ocampo, OBE, the former Secretary of Finance and the current chairman of Philippine Veterans Bank, in partnership with the British Chamber of Commerce, British Council, and the British Embassy.

“The Philippines and the United Kingdom have strong diplomatic relations supported by their commitment to peace, stability and cooperation. Bringing Libera to the country will demonstrate the Philippine-UK mutual support for freedom and socio-cultural development as well as the promotion of human rights and democratic ideals between the two countries,” De Ocampo said.

Over the past decade, strong relations between the two countries have been manifested by converging interests in global and regional affairs and by British interest in Philippine economic and political developments. Formal diplomatic relations between the Philippines and the United Kingdom were established on July 4, 1946.  Since then, both countries have worked diligently to foster more robust political, economic, socio-cultural and people-to-people exchanges between them.

This is the third time Libera will be performing in the Philippines. In 2009 and 2011, the boys regaled the Filipino audience with a moving performance of Bayan ko, which they will again be performing along with other songs from their repertoire including Orinoco Flow, Angel From On High, Sanctus, and other Christmas songs such as Carol of the Bells, Silent Night, Joy To The World, In Dulci Jubilo, and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.

Sponsored by PVB, part of the proceeds of the Manila concert will go to Children’s Hour, BAA Foundation for Disadvantaged Children, and to the victims of typhoon “Maring”.
