Almost a thousand pupils in Caloocan City opened this year’s Children's Month and School Health Month through a flash mob.

Students from Bagumbong Elementary School Main, a partner school of Save the Children in Barangay 171, spearheaded the activity this morning.

Child health promoters themselves took charge of the various booths that were set up, as this year's national celebration’s focuses on children's participation rights.

Among the various activities lined up were story telling on nutrition, film showing, teach-in on proper hand washing and first aid demonstration, vision and hearing assessment, teach-in on first-aid treatment, and feeding program.

These stations showcased health and proper nutrition among children and also their role in communicating these messages.

Children's Month has been celebrated annually since 1993 in pursuant of Presidential Proclamation 267 signed by former President Fidel Ramos, “declaring the month of October of every year as national children's month.”

According to a memo penned by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), the celebration "highlights children's participation in decision making processes in order to develop and enhance their potential as future good leaders."

The month-long festivities also aim to "highlight the importance of child's role within the family, the community and the society in building the nation."
