Art Gap 2021: Winning entries from GMA’s employee photo contest

For two decades, GMA Network’s Art Gap has showcased the creativity of its Kapuso employees and artists. It started as an exhibit of paintings in 2001 and has developed into a celebration of original artwork in various media—painting, photography, songwriting, and caricature drawing.

In 2021, dubbed as the “Super Year for Nature”, GMA adapted the Art Gap program to reflect the Network’s commitment to the environment. With the theme Kapuso ng Kalikasan, the Network held a mobile photo contest to capture how nature enriches lives. Over 300 entries were received for its three categories: Plant Haven, Macro Photography, and Living with Nature. A top winner for each category was selected and each winner received a cash prize of P15,000.00

Its esteemed panel of judges includes master traveler photographer George Tapan, award-winning television host Suzi Entrata-Abrera, and Architect Henry De Dios.

Multi-awarded photographer George Tapan is a recipient of two Pacific Asia Tourism Association (PATA) Gold awards, the ASEAN Tourism Association award, and the 2011 National Geographic Travel photography contest among others. “I saw a lot of raw talents and it was refreshing to see a lot of photos from different perspectives,” Tapan said. “Your photos are good, continue to explore different ways and perspectives to get your winning shot. Don't limit yourself on what you can achieve,” he added.

A Kapuso plantita herself, Unang Hirit TV host and news personality Suzi Entrata-Abrera said: “It was a wonderful experience having been one of the judges of Art Gap. I was in awe of the lovely plants that our Kapuso participants have acquired and actually managed to keep alive! Thank you to everyone who participated in this contest. And to the winners, super congratulations! So many beautiful photos, it was indeed a challenge to choose the best ones.”

Arch. De Dios is a board 10 topnotcher from the University of Sto. Tomas. His projects consist mainly of private residences, vacation homes, and resorts. De Dios said he was surprised and amazed by the different themes and messages conveyed by each work. “The passion for photography and nature is something which I could see and feel in each person’s work…May you continue to develop your love for photography and nature. May you also be proud of the messages you were able to convey through your work. Ang galing talaga ng mga Pilipino!”
