UE offers degree program for aspiring sports, fitness trainers and managers

The University of the East (UE) is offering a degree program specializing in fitness and sports management.

The program of Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Sciences major in Fitness and Sports Management (BSESS-FSM) of the UE College of Education in Manila aims to equip students with skills and knowledge necessary to excel as leaders and innovators in sports and wellness industries.

"With the growing demand for qualified experts in the fields of sports and fitness, this program will ensure that our graduates are well-prepared to make meaningful contributions to individual well-being, community development and excellence,” said UE College of Education Dean Eva Aurora Callueng.

Curriculum courses of the four-year academic program include the latest on fitness and sports management, anatomy, movement, physiology, aerobics and resistance training, among others, that will culminate in an internship for knowledge and skills application in desired, relevant institutions.

While taking up the program, enrollees can apply their classroom lessons to the sporting arena as qualified member-athletes of the different UE Red Warriors sports teams.

Career opportunities for UE BSESS-FSM graduates run the gamut of athletic coach, conditioning coach, sports scientist or analyst, sports and game coordinator, teambuilding facilitator, sports tourism officer, wellness facility owner or manager, and athletic instructor, among others.

UE is one of the eight member-universities of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines, the oldest and premier collegiate sports league in the country.

Other degree programs of the UE College of Education include elementary, special needs, secondary and physical education, and nutrition and dietetics. It also has certificate courses in professional, early childhood, and special needs education and diploma courses in physical education and fitness and sports coaching.

As part of its 76th anniversary this year, the UE College of Education is also set to confer a one-time financial grant of P7,600 each to 10 qualified first-year students who will enroll in any of its degree programs starting May 5. For inquiries, email ceduc@ue.edu.ph.

Founded in 1946, UE is a private academic institution that once held the record for having the largest student enrollment in Asia.
