Court to hear Monday inciting to sedition raps vs Abat

A San Juan Metropolitan Trial Court (MTC) will hear Monday the inciting to sedition case the government filed against former defense secretary Fortunato Abat, who had proclaimed himself president of a revolutionary transition government, GMA 7's DZBB reported. The Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detention Group (PNP-CIDG) filed the case last December against Abat and his key leaders, namely former labor relations chairman Roy Señeres, former budget secretary Salvador Enriquez and lawyer Carlos Serapio. Upon announcing his new government, Abat bemoaned that there was a “crisis in leadership” and called upon other Filipinos to support his cause. Plainclothes police officers accompanied Abat his co-accused to Camp Crame, where he was eventually detained. Abat complained that he thought he was merely invited for questioning and not being taken into custody. Abat’s camp told the court that the CIDG’s evidence was weak, and that the government was merely wasting its time in pursuing the case.-GMANews.TV
