2 survivors in Leyte tragedy die in hospital


The death toll of landslide tragedy in St. Bernard, Southern Leyte rose as two of the victims earlier rescued died on Sunday in a hospital due to severe injuries. According to GMA 7 flash report, the body count as of Sunday afternoon reached 65. A three-year old girl and an adult who were rescued from buried village died while treated in hospital. Meanwhile, relatives of landslide victims keep up hope that more survivors would be rescued from Friday’s tragedy. Lone Southern Leyte Rep. Roger Mercado said his constituents continue praying that rescue efforts would still find survivors. Mercado added: “It’s hard to describe the situation here, it’s unfortunate that this tragedy happened in my province." Two days after the disaster, Mercado said only 20 survivors were found and 65 dead bodies have been recovered. However, 1,500 people are still missing as of this posting. -GMANEWS.TV
