Report: Yahoo shuts down 4 entertainment blogs

Amid reports of its bleak third-quarter earnings report and rumors it is to be acquired, Yahoo! has shut down four of its entertainment blogs, a tech site reported.

Shut down were The Projector, The Set, The Amplifier and The Famous, which vover television, movie, music and celebrity topics respectively, Mashable reported.

"The blogs announced the news on their Twitter accounts, adding that 'other blogs' will be shut down as well," Mashable said.

But the Mashable story said some of the editors involved even managed to muster a joke.

The Projector‘s co-editor Will Leitch tweeted Yahoo "has decided to let @YahooProjector shuffle off this mortal coil."

"It’s a damn shame: We were having such fun,” Leitch tweeted.

“Starting to think that this giant purple Y! tattoo I got last year wasn’t the best idea. #maw,” tweeted Mark Lisanti, one of the managing editors of Yahoo’s entertainment blogs.

Mashable said the latest move could be Yahoo getting rid of properties that haven’t been performing well.

"But it could also mean the company is shedding extra pounds, preparing for a takeover from one of (reportedly) many interested parties," it said.

It cited recent rumors that Alibaba and Softbank Corp. are interested in acquiring Yahoo, which drove Yahoo’s stock price sharply up.

Following Yahoo’s bleak Q3 earnings report, Microsoft signed a confidentiality agreement with Yahoo to get access to the company’s financial information.

This development revived speculation about a possible acquisition, Mashable said.
