Shamcey Supsup is 2011’s most searched in Yahoo PH
Internet firm Yahoo Philippines has announced that Shamcey Supsup, who clinched fourth place at the 60th Miss Universe pageant held in Brazil, led search queries in 2011. The top searches for 2011 were mostly showbiz newsmakers including Sam Pinto, Shalani Soledad, Andi Eigenmann, AJ Perez and Marian Rivera who made headlines for their make-ups, break-ups, national and international notoriety and fame. But Supsup eclipsed her showbiz contemporaries while the Azkals men’s football team, natural calamities such as earthquakes, tsunamis and typhoons trailed behind. Boxing great Manny Pacquiao was the third most-searched sportsperson globally after Danica Patrick and Tiger Woods, and the second-most searched in the Philippines closely following Petron Blaze Boosters – the nation’s professional basketball team. Some of the other sportspersons who made it to the Philippines’ list include Simon Atkins, James Yap and Phil Younghusband. Former Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who faces five plunder cases, was in the most-searched news and issues but what topped this category were the Typhoons Powerball that brought extensive damage to the country. The resignation of Sen. Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, the first in years, also made it to the Top 10, while Spratly Islands that saw tensions intensifying in the West Philippines Sea and the Reproductive Health Bill also made it to the list for being hotly contested issues. The world news searches on Yahoo Philippines were dominated by the Japan tsunami, royal weddings in the UK and Bhutan and Osama Bin Ladin – the three topics were also incidentally in the Top 10 global searches. On a lighter side, Pilipinas Got Talent, American Idol and Temptation Island were among the most popular movies and television shows’ list. The annual look-back of aggregated visitor activity is a gauge for worldwide interests. The 2011 yearinreview.yahoo.com is available in 17 versions including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Korea, Mexico, the Philippines, Spain, Taiwan, United Kingdom and the United States.
