Facebook ticker goes 'missing'

Users of social networking site Facebook may have noticed something missing from their account pages Thursday morning (Manila time): the controversial ticker.

 

Facebook said it was aware of the problem and was working to resolve the issue.

 

"Some people are seeing their ticker disappear. We are aware of this issue and are working to resolve it," Facebook said.

 

The ticker remained inaccessible for many Facebook users in Manila as of Thursday morning, but the problem seemed mostly resolved by the afternoon.

 

Facebook said that one of the reasons why the ticker is not visible is because the user may not be active enough on the social network.

 

"If you don't see ticker, it's probably because you don't use Facebook a lot, so there's not enough content to make ticker useful to you," it said.

 

The Twitter-like ticker, introduced earlier this year, is one of Facebook's more controversial features. It displays status updates from a Facebook user's friends in real time.

 

A separate article on The Hacker News said the problem may be a "bug."

 

It noted that last month, a Brazilian researcher analyzed a privacy issue in Facebook Ticker that allows one to "stalk" a Facebook user without his or her knowledge or consent. — TJD, GMA News
