Don't believe Facebook: Chuck Norris ain't dead yet!
A new scam is making the rounds of social networking site Facebook, ripping off fans of martial arts film star Chuck Norris by claiming he has died. Computer security firm Sophos said the message, which contains a link to a supposed video, claims Norris died at age 71.
"But Chuck Norris isn't dead, and the messages point to an all-too-familiar survey scam. Whoever is behind the erroneous messages about Chuck Norris's death seems to want you to complete one of these surveys. Probably because it will earn them some affiliate cash the more traffic they bring to the webpages," Sophos said in a blog post.
Norris has been credited for popular action films including "Delta Force," "Forced Vengeance," "Return of the Dragon," "Invasion U.S.A.," and "Missing in Action."
Sophos said some victims were redirected to a website claiming to offer a free £100 Starbucks card - in exchange for personal contact information and date of birth.
"If you're one of the many people who fell for this or similar scams, please check your Facebook page to ensure that you are not spreading any messages to your online friends and ensure that you have revoked any Facebook applications, events and liked pages that you are uncomfortable with," Sophos advised.
Those who suspect someone else may have accessed their Facebook accounts should change their passwords, it added. — TJD, GMA News
